Anna has been raised very humbly, strictly, and conservatively not too far from an amusement park she longs to visit. She might be forbidden but that doesn't stop her or the rush of memories and confusion that overtake her there. Across the pond Rosie searches for her missing sister and the ability to step out of her shadow. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀

I read this a couple months ago and I gotta say it was a page turner. It has a fresh take on the mommy dearest religion vibe and its many layered complexity. Even if you have an inkling of where things are going you’ll be a little bit wrong and you won’t mind having the idea in the first place. ⠀

This puts you in the shoes of the victims (everyone somehow) more than any other fiction I've read similar to it. Get your cotton candy ready because this one ain’t sweet and it sure makes you think!

PS the title seems to have changed since I read it and Barber has had some interesting critiques. She’s written for different publications and shared personal stories of abuse. She got skewered by the media at one point for waffling about victim/abuser fault.
