Have you ever started in the middle of a series? I attempted it recently. I obviously hadn’t met Detective Gina Harte yet since this is the fourth installment in the series and knowing how much I didn’t know, messed with my brain. ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The subtle hints to previous events that create the layered characters we become so loyal to call out and are such a sign of good writing but in this case made me impatient and I bailed. Now I know not to start in the middle! I bought the first in the series in order to give Gina a genuinely fair go. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
