This book is huuuuuuggggeee! I love Perks of Being a Wallflower so I was very excited to read this. Chbosky not only left that genre behind but Perk's voice went with it. That's not necessarily a bad thing. In fact I'm impressed with his range but I feel the overall story would've been better if it was cut in half. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I was all in at the beginning, even getting some King vibes but at the halfway point the fatigue was real. I drug myself over the finish line knowing that I was missing some really good stuff because it got too convoluted and I checked out. The themes are deep and the story is great but important details and connections get lost in unnecessarily filled out plot. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀   ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Someone did Chbosky a great disservice by not helping him streamline what he had and make sure everything connected. I'd read it again if it was reedited because of the amazing idea and potential. It would make a great movie. I'm sad about the book version.

Happy Morbid Monday! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
