It’s always interesting how small the seed of a disaster is. How do you know when to stand up and when to shut up? This is a beautiful illustration of that complexity.

It took one chapter for me to hate Valerie’s new neighbor and several to “oi!” at her but what perfect writing! When the neighbors build a fancy new house, Valerie's beloved tree pays the price but it won't be the last sacrifice the neighborhood sees. ⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

We often talk about living in a nice neighborhood. The houses are all unique and the residents are diverse which made this even more compelling to me. Progress is not only an ebb and flow but no one is assured its current state. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The end will emotionally kidnap you and I love the POVs and that the “narrator” is one of the collective neighborhood. I highly recommend this modern take on Romeo, Juliet, and civil systems. In summation, please refer to my mug.
